Extended Council Meet

For Enhanced Community Animation, the Superior General and her administrative team organized a meeting for all the Local Superiors of the Franciscans Sisters of St Aloysius Gonzaga Congregation. It was held at the Generalate, Puducherry from 27 – 29, December 2017 with the theme “Contemplation, Communion and Compassion.”  The participants were the Local Superiors of the local communities from three Provinces (Shalom Province, Michael Ansaldo Province and St Aloysius’ Province, Madurai), the Provincials and members of the provincial council of the three provinces and Sr. Flora, the representative of St Aloysius Province, Myanmar. There were all together 130 sisters in total. Rev. Sr. A. Mary Stella, Superior General was the president of these three days meetings. After a small prayer and lighting of the lamp, Sr. Sharmila, the General Secretary welcomed the gathering and requested the Superior General to felicitate all who were present. The Superior General extended words of welcome and presented the objectives of this gathering. The idea of this gathering was to dedicate more time in prayer, deepening the bonds of fraternity in the community and committing ourselves in the service of the society and the Church in the spirit of St Francis of Assisi.

The resources persons were Rev. Fr. A.J. Mathew OFM Cap, Rev. Fr. Henry D’Souza OFM Cap and Rev. Fr. Divakar OFM Cap. Each person dealt with one topic for each day. On 27th Rev. Fr. A.J. Mathew dealt with the topic on Franciscan Perspective of Fraternity, on 28th Rev. Fr. Henry D’Souza dealt with Franciscan Perspective of Mission, on 29th the final day Rev. Fr. Divakar spoke about Franciscan Perspective of Prayer. After the session, there was group discussion each day according to the theme dealt with. The openness in sharing created much hope among the superiors and gave some positive thoughts towards the future. At the end of the day there was an evaluation.

The input session of the Franciscan Fathers enlightened us and inspired us more to live in the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi in order to follow Jesus our sole Master. During the last day of the meeting, the Superior General wished all for the New Year with small gifts and she reminded that members of our congregation are in a state of a paradigm shift. Hence, we must not afraid rather journey together with faith and bringing new life.

At the end of the assembly the sisters from shalom province thanked the Superior General and her council for this beautiful arrangements, especially for the vibrant resource persons. The three days get-together was a remarkable one in the history of our Congregation.
